Sarah Petty: As a mom of five in Texas, hybrid photographer, Tassie Winters, turned a $200 mini-session client into a $1,700 order in just 10 days. Then a few weeks later, her first real boutique client invested $13,746 in wall portraits. Tassie will be sharing her journey from a digital file photographer who offered prints to a boutique photographer.

Welcome, Tassie. You’ve been a portrait photographer for a while. Tell us your story.

Tassie Winters: I actually started out in a career at AT&T. I was leading a technical writing team, and I just liked to take pictures. My husband said, “Hey, why don’t you try this hobby as a profession?” I had to make a decision between my corporate job or my photography job. We opened DNT Photography in 2008, and here I am in 2025. I started out very minimal. I was interested in photographing weddings because I thought that would just be the most amazing thing. It only took a few weddings to realize that there’s a huge responsibility that comes along with weddings.

Fast forward to just before going through Boutique Breakthrough, I was offering a mixture of things. My weddings were underpriced. I had package offerings for senior parents.

Sarah Petty: When you came across my training, you learned there’s a different way to do things. What was missing in your life?

Tassie Winters: Life was missing in my life. I was working so much. I knew I needed to look at someone who had already gone before me and created the wheel. You were talking about processes and systems and that’s what I needed. And they more than delivered on the promises that you made.

Sarah Petty: You heard about Boutique Breakthrough and you said what to yourself?

Tassie Winters: I knew it would be a commitment. Boutique Breakthrough was a kick in my pants in the best way possible. It was a lot more than I anticipated. There are lessons in there that I learned all the way from marketing to pricing to how to set my prices, how to determine my prices and all the tools to do it.

The investment was a lot less than what I got in return. So it was really good. There is nothing lacking.

Sarah Petty: What would you say your biggest win or two was in Boutique Breakthrough?

Tassie Winters: My big sale was around Christmas time. I walked into a very gorgeous home, and they wanted a huge portrait wall display. They came away with a huge sale of $13,000. It was definitely exciting. But whenever I walked out of their home, I was most surprised that I had such satisfaction in knowing that what they were going to put on their wall was going to be astoundingly beautiful. I have absolutely no concern about feeling like I haven’t serviced them to the best that I could have.

Sarah Petty: That is so cool. Tassie, thank you so much for sharing your story.
