About Us
The Photography Business Institute provides online coaching and mentorship to people pursuing photography business and was founded by Sarah Petty, New York Times Best Selling author. Petty has run a successful portrait photography business for over 25 years. Nearly 2,000 members have completed our flagship photography business coaching workshop, Boutique Breakthrough.
Why are we here?
Well, it’s pretty simple. We’re excited to come to work everyday because we help fulfill dreams of photography business owners like you who want the flexibility that having a small business allows. The flexibility to be parents, friends, spouses, travelers and passionistas at what we love. We have that flexibility, too, so we can relate.
You see, many of us including our founder, Sarah Petty, started out working a traditional 9-5 job, without the time for our photography passion to become anything more than a hobby. But as our families grew, so did our life goals. And that’s when we shifted our focus to creating an income for our families using our camera.
For us, small business is about no limits on our potential. It’s about being where we need to be when we need to be there. It’s about creating something we can be proud of every single day and that others will love. It’s about doing the work that most people don’t want to do, but that we’re passionate about doing. It’s about attending our kiddos school events and being home for dinner. It’s about creating something we are so passionate about that we can’t help but dream about it every night.

As a united effort, our growing network has funded important causes, including over $100,000 raised for Operation Underground Railroad, $50,000 for Operation Smile, and collectively our Peak Performance coaching members donated over $45,000 to pet charities in 2023 alone.
By fostering social responsibility and showing how small actions can collectively make a difference, we honor our commitment to bettering lives through photography. Our students carry this spirit of service wherever their journeys lead.
