As I sit here wrapping up my year and reviewing my small business strategies from the previous year, I am so happy to look back and energized to look forward. I don’t know about the rest of you but this was a great year. I have an amazing team in place, we worked hard and we found success. What I love the most about my team is that they all stepped up to the plate this fall when my dad had a life-saving heart surgery in Chicago (3 hours away).  The happy news is that my dad is home safely and that was the best Christmas gift we could all ask for.

As we look to 2011, we have high hopes and aspirations for Photography Business Institute. Both Erin and I are big into setting goals and seeing what small business strategies worked last year and what didn’t. We both played competitive sports and were raised setting goals:  personal goals, athletic goals, family goals. As we have spent a lot of time in the last few weeks planning for 2011, the one theme that kept rising to the top was that we both want more time with our families to travel and enjoy life. So, while making money is important, when you are setting your goals in 2011, make sure you remember WHY you work so hard. Here are a few ideas to get you started!

– Go buy a new notebook to house your thoughts and ideas and on page one, write down the words “quality of life.”

– Create parameters next year. Try to leave work at the end of the day and get 36 non-work hours over the weekend.

– Check out Brian Tracy’s goal setting program. FREE. Get yourself excited to make 2011 better than 2010.
