Small Business Blog

I know those of you who grew up in the Brady Bunch era still LOVE the episode where Peter’s voice changes. “…when it’s time to change, you’ve got to rearrange…”

When you are running a small business (and many of you a family as well), many times it is hard for us to change our bad habits. I know in my family, one of my favorite times to make changes in habits is when our schedule changes during back-to-school week.

For us, it is as instrumental as New Year’s Day. Once school starts, instead of sleeping in, we get up early which affords us the opportunity to make lots of changes to our morning routine. While there was plenty of time during the summer to clean rooms, clear the table and pick up the messy shoe area, it was easy to ignore those tasks a little more each day and settle into bad routines. To nip this in the bud, I always make a huge effort the first week of school to get everyone up a little bit earlier
so we can start new habits – making beds, bringing laundry downstairs, etc. I could have started changing those habits at anytime this summer but because of our dramatic schedule change this week, it is easier to throw positive changes into the mix.

In your business, how can you make changes in your schedule or your environment so that you can create a catalyst to change your bad habits?
Do work from home in the chaos of your family life? Maybe you can find a way to get an office somewhere out of the home if even for a few hours a week and even better if you can trade services for it. Are you in the trap of putting the kids to bed and working all night only to feel like you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning? Try setting an alarm each day and spending the first 30 minutes of your day exercising to give you more energy. You will feel better and be tired at night.
Whether you have kids or not, this is a great time of year for you to make some needed changes.

I would love to hear what changes you want to make and how you can alter the way you are doing things to help you accomplish your goals!
